The thesis should demonstrate the author's ability for independent creative activity and a deeper knowledge of the subject matter.

Part II. Rigorosum thesis
Article 8 Recognition of works
In the event that a thesis or dissertation is recognised as a rigorous thesis, the study department clerk shall establish a record of the rigorous thesis and a record of the study obligation in the SIS, indicating the result of the defence (the date of the defence in this case being the date of the decision to recognise the thesis). In addition, he/she will attach the relevant files relating to the thesis to the thesis record, with the exception of the reports, which are optional in this case.
Article 9 Other rigorous theses
For rigorous theses not covered by Article 8, Part I shall apply mutatis mutandis, with the exception of Articles 3, 4(5) and (7) and 5. Alternative procedure for rigorous theses not covered by Article 8:
1. The participant in the rigorosum procedure shall agree on the topic of the rigorosum thesis with the relevant department or institute.
2. The template and other requirements for the rigorous thesis are available for download at: http://www.htf.cuni.cz/HTF-595.html
3. The length of the rigorous thesis must be at least 100 standard pages (180,000 characters including spaces) excluding annotations and appendices.
4. The participant in the rigorosum procedure shall submit the rigorosum thesis in electronic form. The thesis shall be sent in "doc" and "pdf" format to the Department
of Science, Doctoral Studies and International Relations. The department's clerk will confirm receipt of the electronic form of the thesis and enter the thesis into SIS.
The participant of the rigorus procedure submits the rigorous thesis in electronic form. The thesis is sent in "docx" and "pdf" format to the Department of Science, Doctoral Studies and International Relations. The department will acknowledge receipt of the electronic form of the thesis and enter the thesis into the SIS.
Each thesis must contain the title of the thesis, and a summary (resume) in Czech language of at least one standard page (one standard page = at least 30 lines and 60 characters per line).
The minimum length of the actual text of the thesis is 100 standard pages (not including appendices, list of references).
Bibliographic citations are governed by ISO 690.
Note: It is recommended to submit the thesis to the Science Department at least
3 months before the maximum duration of the procedure.
